WATKINS SCOUT

These are becoming harder to find but with similiar circuitry to the better known Watkins V-front Dominator are a great find for both collector and guitarist. I believe that there was also a blue and white version like the V-front Dominator. A great little studio amp or practise amp etc.

Output Transformer

Note the 10 inch Elac loudspeaker in the above pictures. Why don't they make these great sounding loudspeakers today???

Electrolytic capacitors as shown in the picture above are about 40 years old and the electrolyte has usually dried up and these capacitore become leaky and can short out at any time especially when the amp is cranked right up and very often the mains transformer fries when this happens. So when you get a great little amp like this, ideal for studio usage get the electrolytics changed before usage, and any other components that are badly out of specification. Unfortunately I am finding problems sourcing dual multisection capacitors at the moment so the one on the right in the picture in the above picture was replaced with one which came out of a 1970's Marshall but I would be much happier if a new 50+50uF 450 Vdc or 500 Vdc electrolytic capacitor was fitted. This still has the original 10nF decoupling capacitors to the output stage etc.

With replaced electrolytics and all the 100K resistors a 47K resistor on the phase splitter and a 10K HT decoupling resistor. This is not a 100% restoration. There is a very simple gain mod also on the microphone input which in this case gives a lot more gain on the input jack on the left. A new set of valves would also be a good idea.
